Howard F. Earls, age 69, "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God" on July 14, 2009. The son of Carl and Winifred Earls (both deceased); the brother of Julia Deubner (deceased) and Carole Napier; the loving and devoted husband for 30 years to Claudia Pearson Earls; the father of Patrick, Charlie (Darci) and Kelly (Geno) Earls. A foster father for many young lives, Howard always had a place in his home and his heart for children and people in need. Antwan Level, Josh and Mason Perdue and his step-grandchildren: Faith, Bella, Jaivyn, and Tristen all held a familial place in Howard's heart. Howard remained life-long friends with not only many of his friends from George Washington High School, where he graduated in 1958, but also remained best friends with his childhood friends that he met in first grade. Howard worked for 27 years at Beveridge Paper Company. A devoted man, he was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, and was happiest playing with kids or watching a baseball game. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. All will miss his easy laugh and his love of life. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 16 at Usher Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services are on Friday at 11am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 379 N. Warman Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46222. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to Outreach, Inc., 2822 East New York Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201, an organization that helps homeless youth with physical, spiritual and emotional needs.
